Description: Arcobacter butzleri, formerly named Campylobacter butzleri, is a Gram-negative rod found in environmental samples. It has been associated with abortion and enteritis in animals and with diarrhea and bacteremia in adults and children. An important source of human contamination may be food. It has been isolated in different breeding animals and is present in a great variety of retail meats, including chicken, beef, pork, and lamb, with a high prevalence in poultry.
