Comments
  • FUNCTION: Catalyzes an oxidative deamination of predominantly hydrophobic and aromatic L-amino acids (highest specificity towards L-Met, L-Trp, L-Leu followed by L-His, L-Phe, L-Arg and L-Ile. L-Gly, L-Ser, L-Thr, L-Pro, L-Cys, L-Asp are not oxidized). Inhibits both agonist-induced platelet aggregation. Has cytotoxic activity. Has an antibacterial activity against both Gram-negative (E.coli) and Gram-positive (B.subtilis) bacteria. May also have an ability to induce apoptosis and hemorrhage.
  • CATALYTIC ACTIVITY: An L-amino acid + H2O + O2 = a 2-oxo acid + NH3 + H2O2.
  • COFACTOR: FAD.
  • BIOPHYSICOCHEMICAL PROPERTIES:
    Kinetic parameters:   KM=0.40 mM for L-Leu;
    KM=0.65 mM for L-Met;
    KM=0.17 mM for L-Trp;
    Temperature dependence:   Thermostable between 4 and 25 degrees Celsius. At -20 degrees Celsius, the remaining activity is 20%. Heating at 70 degrees Celsius inactivates the enzyme in 15 minutes;
  • SUBUNIT: Homodimer.
  • SUBCELLULAR LOCATION: Secreted.
  • TISSUE SPECIFICITY: Expressed by the venom gland.
  • PTM: Glycosylated (By similarity).
  • SIMILARITY: Belongs to the flavin monoamine oxidase family. FIG1 subfamily.
